Havoc Editing - 5 June 2007

so here's a post from a havoc editor. this is the slower part of the month, so i'm going to let you know what i'm up to. i've mostly been laying back tapes today (where we record to a tape from the computer.) i was lucky, i had 4 to do today and they were all on the computer already. so all i had to do was open the projects and hit go. as an editor, i do a lot of technical stuff. we have to be sure the colors are correct when we bring a project in, and then we have to make sure all the audio is in the correct levels. it's amazing how many tapes and dvds we get in that the audio levels are totally jacked. from one section to the next the levels are all over. once this is all done, the program can then be recorded to tape for pay-per-view. and that is what i am doing today.

i did "heart still pounding" which is actually a pretty cool skate film by Aryeh Krauss and his friends. Aryeh is even in the film himself. i did "doped youth" which is a hysterical film about australian surfers James Katto, Ozzy Wright, Dean Morisson and more. it will have you laughing, hooting and ultimately scratching your head! the real gem of the day is "fistful of barrels". this is a new surf film from La Jolla, one of the best waves in the world. the 2006 Rip Curl Search Pro was held and the waves were as good as they get! Cory Lopez scores a 28 second barrel, it's incredible.

but if you can't put down cash to watch these don't worry, because parts of them will apprear on the free havoc, and also on the website (eventually). the other part of my job is then cutting up these movies into the shorter segments you see on havoc as in-demand. this part takes a lot longer. because it's free tv, we have to adhere to fcc rules and take out all the swear words and inappropriate gestures. that's right, i'm the guy that puts in all those beeps and blurs out middle fingers and boobs.

most recently i bleeped out about half of "skinned alive". it's acutally a pretty cool film by bart saric. it's about skater and tattos. i don't skate, and i don't have any tattoos, but it was really interesting. some really incredible artwork. look for that to start showing up on in-demand around september or october. "how we roll" is another really cool skate film i just finished cutting up too. it's the LRG skate team having A LOT of fun in europe. "something anywhere everywhere" is a really cool surf movie by globe. you should start emailing jeff@havoctv.com and start begging to see this one. it's got a lot of great extras. i did "Califragulistic 2" not too long ago too. it's a fun surf movie too. my favorite parts are Danny Estes and Jamie O'Brien's. i've mostly been working on surf and skate, but the last bmx film was "Dig 25". this one is neat because it's 25 individual short films (some VERY short, some regular short) that are kind of like chapters of bmx. tell jeff you want to see "Blue to Black", "Stabilizers", and "Desert Rat" from Dig 25. those are the real killer sections.

but anyway, i better get back to work. otherwise you won't have anything new to watch. then we'll suck. then we'll be mtv. and that won't be cool.
